I’ve finally rubbed off on my husband! He’s frugaltastic, too!
For those of you who know me in real life, you know that part of the reason I started this blog was because my dear, sweet, wonderful husband just doesn’t all that excited by my great deals, much to my chagrin. I’ll come home, victorious and proud, having saved over 70% off groceries– and? nothing. He’s so used to me by now, I think that I’ve spoiled him– though I do often (daily?) remind him of how lucky he is to have me and my frugalistic/fabulous self.
And, I will say this– the man is willing to go to the grocery store with a fistful of coupons– and he ensures that the cashiers take every.last.one (of course, it doesn’t hurt that he explains that he’ll be in the doghouse if he comes home with an unused coupon!) That alone has cemented my undying love and devotion– which, truth be told, he already had
Anyhoo, just had to share his scores/successes over the past week.
We had purchased a vacuum at Home Depot a few months ago which promptly died– there is a vacuum curse on this house– we’ve gone through more than I can count in the last few years. I’m sure that the 2 large dogs and two furry cats have NOTHING to do with it, ahem. The original (now dead) vacuum had been purchased with a 20% off coupon at Home Depot– plus we had purchased an extended warranty (yes, normally those are a waste of money, but, again, we kill vacuums here, remember?)
My husband NOT only got a full refund for both the vacuum *and* the warranty– but he ALSO got a Dyson DC18 on clearance(!) for $297 (regularly $449) AND got Home Depot to reapply the 20% off discount to the new purchase.. aren’t you impressed? I am!
Next, fantastic deal/score– we have a JennAir barbeque, which was purchased at Lowe’s (again with a coupon, but that’s not relevant to the story!) approximately 4 years ago– and the burners and heat plates had completely corroded. JennAir has a lifetime warranty on the burners and when my husband called they asked him to present PROOF that we were the original owners of the bbq. We, unfortunately, weren’t able to find the original receipt– grrrr– so originally JennAir was not willing to honor their warranty.
Hubby persisted and spoke to a supervisor– and we are getting ALL NEW parts for the barbeque: five new burners, five heat plates and a drawer–all for the price of shipping– yippee!
See, I’m rubbing off on him :) Before you know it, he’ll be blogging too! LOL.
